 Red Maples Breeding Program

The main focus of our breeding program is to breed dogs that are ideal for service and therapy work. We breed to keep puppies back for our program trained service dogs and skilled companions. Our priority is to have all of our puppies go into service or therapy work. Having said that we do sometimes have dogs who are more suited to a pet home, conformation or competitive dog sports (obedience, nose work, agility)

Our focus is on healthy dogs who are confident in any and all situations. We want friendly dogs who have zero aggression, do not resource guard, are not noise sensitive and are sound and stable in all new environments and situations. We remove any shy, anxious or nervous dogs from our breeding program and only choose to include dogs who have no personality or behavioural flaws. We also want our dogs to be trainable and people oriented.

All of our dogs come from very accomplished show and working bloodlines from Canada and Europe. They have generations of health testing behind them with many conformation champions (European and Canadian) . We raise our puppies with puppy culture and focus on extensive early socialization to give them the best head start.

Our puppies come with;
- a comprehensive 30 month health guarantee
- 30 days of free pet insurance with Trupanion
- a 15kg bag of Inukshuk Canadian made premium kibble
- a copy of your individual puppies volhard temperament test results
- Micriochip, age appropriate vaccinations and de-worming
- started on potty, crate and obedience training (take home instructions)

All of our breeding dogs have temperament /obedience and/or conformation titles. View pictures and health details here

Can any dog be a service dog?

We look for some key temperament traits that make the perfect service dog prospects;

CONFIDENCE - a confident dog will be able to perform its tasks no matter what is going on around them.
NOISE TOLERANT - a dog who is not startled by loud or strange noises is able to task around them.
NATURAL RETRIEVE - a dog with a natural retrieve will be more wiling to work with their handler
CALM - calm dogs are able to relax and wait patiently with their handler and don't need a lot of extra exercise.
FRIENDLY - we do not tolerate any type of aggression in our dogs. They must all be friendly and accepting of everything and everyone.

Did you know that a dogs temperament or personality is genetic? You can't love or train any dog to be a service dog. This is why our breeding program is so unique and special. A dogs temperament is genetic but can be moved along a sliding scale with training and environment.

For example lets address a dogs confidence. we will create a range from 0 (meaning no confidence) to 100 (meaning loads of confidence). All puppies will fall within a genetic range along that scale that varies depending on the genetics available. For example a puppy could have a genetic range of 0 to 40 meaning this puppy lacks a lot of confidence but could be made worse or better depending on environment and training but this puppy will never be 100.
